Graham Russell
Graham Russell was born June 11, 1950 in Sherwood, England
As a child he would love to go into Nottingham's Legendary Sherwood
Forest and play all day long. He would love to sit under a tree
and read Charles Dickens or D.H. Lawrence books and get lost in
the fantasy. Young Graham found it very hard to share his feelings
out loud so he would write them down on paper. He found that the
best place to record his private thoughts would be in the forest
so that's where he went to record privately his personal feelings
and thoughts in rhythmic verses
Graham was only ten when his mother passed away, and three
years later his father, and new stepmother announced that the family
was moving to Melbourne, Australia. Graham did not want To leave
Shewood, so the night before they were suppose to leave for Australia
Graham ran away from home. No longer able to keep the ship from
sailing, the distraught Russell family had no choice but to leave
for Australia without Graham.
Graham ended up safely with his uncle. Like most teenagers
he reached a point when he began to worry about his future, He
thought surely that his fate would be to work in a factory like
those around him. Around this time, Graham was introduced to the
music of an exciting new band out of Liverpool. the Beatles. Graham
was swept up in Beatlemania.
Sometimes he would creep down to the cellar of his house,
and imagine himself performing before a wild screaming
audience just like his idols.
He was so caught up in this fantasy that he knew he just had
to be in show business. Graham joined local rock band as their
drummer. Graham still continued to write Songs. He pleaded with
the band members to play his songs but no matter how hard he tried
It was to no avail. They still refused to play his music.
Three years later Following the advice of his sister, Graham
finally rejoined his family in Melbourne where he found a job
in a kleenex factory His job was to load 400 pound rolls of tissue
onto a trolley, to be evenly distributed into little
boxes.
